Asda PFS & car park projects

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This is an overview of various Service Station developments and associated works undertaken for Asda Stores Ltd, part of the Walmart Group.

The projects to date include Refurbishment of existing PFS at Basildon Essex, replacement of existing PFS at Havant Hampshire & Shoeburyness Essex and a new PFS in Gravesend Kent. All of these included providing a 24/7 operational filling station with either manned or unmanned fully automated operation as required, all with a canopy structure and a traditional underground fuel storage facility.

The new canopy covers are a single deck with exposed steel sections. The fuel installation comprises twin skin steel storage tanks in a conventional underground tank farm installation, new fuel pipework, PLG fuel dispensers, tanker off loading bay and the fuel dispensing is via a suction system.

The forecourt is always surfaced with brushed finished concrete and approach/exit paving with macadam surfacing, the remaining perimeter areas are laid to landscape, drainage to the forecourt is via Aco drain channels and forecourt interceptor, the system discharges via gravity into normal site drainage.

SPECIFIC PROJECT DETAILS

Basildon Refurbishment: Existing tank farm decommissioned, remove carwash, replacement tanks installed, new fuel installation including lines and dispensers, two-post canopy extension to match existing, existing sales building shell retained and upgraded with internal refit, external surfaces re-laid and soft landscaping.

Havant Replacement: Existing tank farm decommissioned, remove existing canopies and buildings including carwash, replacement tanks installed, new fuel installation including lines and dispensers, new 8 post canopy installed to include four 24 hour fully automated operation and four drive to pay kiosk dispensers, new pay kiosk building traditionally constructed and external surfaces re-laid and soft landscaping to suit.

Shoeburyness Replacement: Existing tank farm decommissioned, remove existing canopy and building, replacement tanks installed, new fuel installation including lines and dispensers, new four-post canopy installed to provide 24 hour fully automated operation, new jetwash facilities in two service bays provided, extensive on site remediation scheme with monitoring system installed and external surfaces re-laid with soft landscaping to suit. Replacement recycling centre and associated car park and main store entrance road reconfiguration works. This project also included the first installation of a solar panel system to the roof of an Asda petrol station canopy.

Gravesend New Build: New tanks installed, new fuel installation including lines and dispensers, new four-post canopy installed to provide 24 hour fully automated operation and external surfaces re-laid with soft landscaping to suit. Replacement recycling centre to the car park.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Broham Forecourt Developments Ltd were appointed as a Design & Build Specialist Principal Contractor for the complete PFS development projects and co-ordinated all client direct contractors, including fuel storage tank supplier, canopy installer, fuel dispensers, electrical installation, signage and any remediation works as required.

Broham appointed various domestic subcontractors for fuel system decommissioning complete, solar installation, fabric elements and various other works as required.

CAR PARK WORKS

As part of our services provided to Asda, we are pleased to have also carried out carpark refurbishment upgrade works including alterations to improve layouts, resurfacing, relining, replacement recycling bay facilities and improved signage.

Currently works have been completed to the Weston-Super-Mare, High Wycombe and Greenhithe stores.
